ICED’s Development Philosophy and Approach
During the past three decades, ICED deployed a number of sectoral, thematic and transversal actions such as participatory action research; management of projects; provision of extension / advisory services; and capacity building to promote sustainable development in Ghana and SSA. ICED has vast experience in applying the concepts of sustainability, innovation, productivity and resource use efficiency to inform its sustainable development interventions. ICED adopts pragmatic, holistic, value-based, sustainability and participatory approaches that effectively elicit active involvement of relevant development stakeholders (policy-makers, researchers, students, teachers, youth groups, women groups, farmer based organisations, private sector actors, etc.) in the conceptualization and implementation of its activities and development interventions. Consistent with ICED vision, mission, objectives and the existing and emerging sustainable development discourse, it is recommended that it builds its institutional identity around identifiable sectoral and thematic areas and its core competencies.
